Hi Everyone... First, we'd like to thank all who turned out to last Friday's Swing Time event featuring Roomful of Blues! The band delivered an exceptional performance, playing with tremendous passion and energy all the way through the final encore. Since the whole swing revival started about 10 years ago, last Friday was likely the biggest swing-dance event in Tampa Bay history! The fun continues this Wednesday (Jan 23) with a special live-music event at the Gulfport Casino Swing Night, featuring the Juke Joint Kings! Then on Thursday, we swing over to Centro Asturiano! See below for details, plus a preview of the Valentine's Ball. --Sam

Our condolences go out to Roomful of Blues on the loss of their trumpet player, Bob Enos, who passed away last Friday morning. Bob was a music legend who'd been with the band for 26 years. One band member told me Friday after they'd played Swing Time... that the band was devastated by the loss, but that having such an energetic crowd of dancers and music lovers rooting them on had really lifted their spirits. The band has continued with their Florida/Caribbean tour. [Roomful's Bob Enos was a standout guy] [Farewell to our friend, our brother...]

This Wednesday, January 23rd, Swing Time hosts a special evening of live music and dancing at the Gulfport Casino Swing Night, featuring the hot swingin' sounds of the Juke Joint Kings! It all starts with a group swing-dance lesson, 7-8pm (no partner needed), followed by live music and dancing, 8pm-midnight.

The Juke Joint Kings are a hot five-piece jump/blues outfit, complete with piano, vocals, harmonica, guitar, bass & drums. The Juke Joint Kings rocked the joint at their prior Swing Time appearances! Band members are music veterans with well over 100 years of professional experience between them. Different members have played with or opened for a who's who list of blues/musical greats, including Etta James, Koko Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, Marshall Tucker Band, Luther Allison, Lonnie Brooks, Albert King, Son Seals, Rock Bottom, Ronnie Earl, Hubert Sumlin, and Mighty Joe Young. The Juke Joint Kings know how to swing, and are bringing it to us live!

This special event is co-sponsored by the Gulfport Casino and Swing Time. The Gulfport Casino is located in the St. Petersburg area at 5500 Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport FL 33707.

EVERY THURSDAY in Ybor City (Tampa, FL)

Every Thursday, the Grand Ballroom of Centro Asturiano comes alive, as all ages gather for Swing Centro, an exciting night of swing music and dancing! Dancers swing & move, shake & groove to the latest swingin' sounds, while scenesters socialize in the fabulous vintage surroundings or enjoy a drink at the bar. Every Swing Centro event starts with a group swing-dance lesson (7-8pm), where no partner is needed and no prior dance experience is necessary. Every event continues with music & dancing, 8pm-midnight. Vintage attire is encouraged (though not required) and many people come decked out in styles from the 20's-50's.
