This coming Thursday, March 6th, Swing Centro hosts a special night of live music and swing dancing featuring the hot swingin' rhythms & cool velvety sounds of Lounge Cat! The event starts with a group swing-dance lesson, 7-8pm (no partner needed), followed by live music & dancing, 8pm-midnight, all happening in the fabulous Grand Ballroom of Centro Asturiano in Tampa!

Lounge Cat is a six-piece swing band that's been entertaining people across the Bay area for eight years. Led by singer & guitarist, Eddie Rosicky, the band also includes sax, trumpet, electric banjo, upright bass, and drums. Lounge Cat's diverse repertoire ranges from Rat Pack favorites, to Louis Armstrong, to unique and often humorous swinging covers and originals. The band was a big hit at their Swing Time debut last year at the Gulfport Casino! In addition to Swing Time, the band has played hundreds of venues and events, including WMNF's Tropical Heatwave, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Florida Aquarium, Disney, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and the Ringling Art Museum. Lounge Cat has recorded three CDs and opened for acts ranging from B.B. King to the Red Elvises.

This special event is co-sponsored by Centro Asturiano and Swing Time. Centro Asturiano is located at 1913 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa FL 33602 (at the corner of Palm Ave. & Nebraska Ave. in Ybor City).

Greetings, everyone! It's Sam, here. Just wanted to update you on the latest live-music swing events. We're currently working with the Gulfport Casino to hopefully schedule some new live-band dates. In the meantime, we're taking Swing Centro Live! Starting this Thursday, March 6th, we're bringing the band, Lounge Cat, a band that was a huge hit with dancers at their Swing Time debut last December! Plus, the live-music action continues the following two Thursdays at Centro Asturiano! See below for the full schedule, and stay tuned to this newsletter for future updates.

SWING CENTRO FREE PASSES TO EXPIRE: For anyone who won or is holding a Swing Centro Free Pass (including Student Passes), and hasn't used it yet, take a look at the expiration date. If it's already expired, please throw it away. Otherwise, it expires March 21st 2008. The pass also says it's not valid at special events (such as band nights). However, since all we have left in the upcoming three weeks is band nights, here's what we're going to do... Anyone holding a regular (unexpired) Free Pass can redeem it for $5 off admission at any of the three upcoming Thursday events. Anyone holding a Student Free Pass can redeem it for $3 off admission.

BABY BOOMER SHOW SATURDAY MARCH 22ND AT COLISEUM
Retro Exhibits, Dancing, Fashion & More!

Join us Saturday March 22nd at the St Petersburg Coliseum for the Baby Boomer Show. Swing Time will be spinning the top hits and dance tracks of the 1940's-1960's throughout the day, with open dancing and special performances. The Show runs 10am-5pm, admission is $6 ($3 for children under 2), and the Coliseum is located at 535 4th Ave N in St Petersburg.

A celebration of "boomerabilia nostalgia" from the 1940's, 1950's, and 1960's, the Baby Boomer Show features an array of retro fun. In addition to music & dancing, the floor will be filled with exhibitors selling antiques & collectibles such as retro home furnishings & decor, pop culture icons, toys/games/dolls, vintage pin-ups, pulp fiction, militaria, and movie memorabilia, plus some great retro fashions and accessories. Enjoy vintage fashions presented through "Tea Room" style modeling by Buffalo Gal Vintage. See Dr Gary Moss's presentation on Monster & Horror Collectibles of the 1950's and 60's. Dance to some great retro tunes, watch screenings of vintage TV commercials, and shop 'til you drop!
