Hi Everyone! Get ready to dance tonight (Wednesday) at the Gulfport Casino Swing Night! Tonight's 6pm lesson will cover the very cool tandem (front-to-back) Charlestons, the last of our Charleston Classes before we move on to 6pm Shim Sham Classes Wednesday March 4th. These 6pm bonus lessons are followed by Swing Lessons 7-8pm, and Swing Music & Dancing 8-11pm. The next Swing Time! live music & dance event is just two Fridays away -- Friday March 6th's Big Band Night at the Gulfport Casino! Then Swing Time returns to Centro Asturiano in Tampa on Friday March 27th. Details on all these new events and classes are below. --Sam

Wednesday March 18th, celebrate Frankie Week at the Gulfport Casino! It's the granddaddy of swing, Frankie Manning's, 95th birthday, so join swing scenes from around the world to honor Frankie in a Global Shim Sham! Dress in your swingin'est attire. We'll be filming the entire performance and submitting it to the global video compilation to be played at Frankie's Birthday Festival in NYC in May! Don't know the Shim Sham? Need to brush up? Take the 6pm Lesson on Wednesdays March 4th, 11th & 18th.

Friday, March 6th, 2009, Swing Time hosts Big Band Night at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom, featuring live music by The Ten O'Clock Band, Florida's Leading 18-Piece Big Band! Kicking off the event is a group swing-dance lesson, 8-9pm (no partner needed). Then it's time to swing, with live music & dancing, 9:00pm-12:30am, plus a dance contest at intermission with $100 Cash 1st Prize!

The Ten O'Clock Band brings the big-band experience to Swing Time. When people speak of "the big bands", this is what they mean -- five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, plus piano, bass, guitar, drums, and vocals. The band's bold & brassy sound will fill the grand ballroom, with minimal need for amplification, letting participants experience the classic days of swing as it was meant to be played, heard, danced to, and otherwise enjoyed. Exciting soloists, excellent musicianship, and great coordination as a unit have earned the band rave reviews from dancers as well as fellow musicians across the Bay area!

Swing Time is Florida's Premier Swing Event, held one Friday each month in Tampa Bay at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. The Gulfport Casino is located in the St. Petersburg area at 5500 Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport FL 33707.
