Starting this Wednesday... TRIPLE TIME -- ADVANCING YOUR SWING is the 6-7pm Bonus Lesson topic the four Wednesdays, August 4th - 25th at the Gulfport Casino Swing Night.  Kick your dancing up a notch with triple-time swing!  Triple-time swing forms the basis for most advanced swing dancing (including Lindy Hop, West-Coast Swing, and advanced East-Coast Swing), for the simple reason that if you add more steps, you can perform more intricate moves.  But triple-time is not just steps; it's a whole new attitude of dancing!  In these classes, we focus on movement.  We'll show you how to easily impress your partner.  We'll show you a variety of more advanced six-count moves.  Our overall goal is to raise your dancing to that next level!  Read More

NEW! DINE & DANCE WEDNESDAYS... Swing Time has teamed up with Gulfport's finest waterfront-district restaurants to bring you an outstanding selection of dining specials!  This week, we feature the Peninsula Inn's restaurant, renowned for its fine dining.  Starting this Wednesday, the Peninsula is offering a Wednesday Swing Night Menu plus a Dinner for Two "Jive & Dine Special".  Just 19.95 buys you TWO entrees plus your choice of one appetizer or dessert!  The Swing Night Menu is valid 5-8pm Wednesdays, which is perfect for dancers who want to take the 6-7pm lesson, go eat, then come back to dance!  It's also great for those who'd like to grab a bite to eat before hitting the dance floor.  The Peninsula Inn is located at 2937 Beach Blvd S, Gulfport FL, walking distance from the Gulfport Casino.

Taxi Dancers Return Friday... As an added attraction at this Friday August 6th's Swing Time! event, some of your favorite dancers will be for hire!  Robyn Haynes is organizing this fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  Just a buck (or a few bucks) donation and you can take your favorite Taxi Dancer for a spin!  (You can find the available dancers for hire at a table near the stage.)  In addition, prizes will be raffled off.  All donations go directly to the American Cancer Society.

This Friday, August 6th, at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom is Swing Time! ...featuring the dual-sax swingin' jump blues of The Steve Arvey Band!  Kicking off the event is a group swing-dance lesson, 8-9pm (no partner needed).  Then it's time to swing, with live music & dancing, 9:00pm-12:30am, plus a dance exhibition at intermission!  Doors open 7:30pm.  All ages are welcome!

The Steve Arvey Band is a dual-sax-infused combo that jumps & swings the blues!  Fronted by blues great, Steve Arvey, on vocals and guitar, the band also includes two saxophonists on tenor & baritone sax, plus bass player and drummer.  The band serves up a mix of swingin' originals and covers influenced by musical styles ranging from New Orleans R&B, to 50's & 60's Rock'n'Roll, to Soul, Jazz & Blues.

Steve Arvey is a master of the blues, whose musical career has spanned over three decades.  He's toured and performed all over the USA, Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, at thousands of venues, clubs, events, and festivals.  He's played prestigious blues festivals too numerous to mention, each time beating out hundreds of competing acts to secure a performance spot in the festival's lineup.  In fact, Steve holds the record for the most consecutive appearances -- 7 years in a row -- at the world-renowned Chicago Blues Festival!  A veteran of the Chicago blues scene, Steve has played with musical greats Hubert Sumlin, Eddie Clearwater, Jimmy Rogers, Homesick James, and Honeyboy Edwards, to name just a few.  In fact, Steve's music career started when he was a student at the University of Florida, where his band regularly backed none other than blues legend Bo Diddley!  Steve Arvey has recorded five CDs, his music has received airplay at blues radio stations across the USA, and he maintains a busy touring schedule across three continents!

Swing Time is Florida's Premier Swing Event, held one Friday each month in Tampa Bay at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom.  The Gulfport Casino is located in the St. Petersburg area at 5500 Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport FL 33707.
