In celebration of Pretzel Night 2012, Swing Time is offering an in-depth look at that fun & twisty dance move, the Pretzel!  But wait, there's not just one pretzel, but pretzels come in many varieties....  We'll cover the Men's Pretzel, the Men's Reverse Pretzel, the Ladies Pretzel, the Ladies Reverse Pretzel, and Back-to-Back Switching.  Plus you'll learn everything you need to know to dance those pretzels, including the East-Coast Swing (6-Count) footwork and armwork, good pretzel timing & technique, plus various turns that you can do on their own or as a lead-in/follow-up to the pretzels!  We'll teach one set of pretzelly moves during the 6pm lesson and a completely new set of pretzelly moves during the 7pm lesson.  You can take either lesson by itself or take both for the most fun!  No prerequisites; no partner is needed.

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012, New England Swing Legends, Eight to the Bar, appear LIVE at the Gulfport Casino Swing Night!  The event starts with a Shim Sham Lesson 6-7pm, followed by Swing Dance Lesson 7-8pm, then Live Music & Dancing 8-11pm.  All ages are welcome and no partner is needed.

Eight to the Bar is a pioneer of the modern swing resurgence, together for 35 years and recording 12 albums!  The band swings with a jump jive, jump blues, and boogie woogie sound that inspires dancers wherever they go.  The band is known for the vocal harmonies created by their two female singers and backed by boogie-woogie piano, sax, and an all-star rhythm section.  Eight to the Bar plays about 200 events each year, including prestigious shows, venues, festivals, and dances across the globe!  They love to perform for swing dancers!  They've appeared in concert with Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, Manhattan Transfer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Robert Cray, and Neil Young, to name a few.  And a fun fact for the road... Eight to the Bar's sax player, Collin Tilton, was a collaborator of superstar, Van Morrison, playing sax and flute on the multi-platinum Moondance album!  The band visits Florida about once every 10 years, so don't miss this rare opportunity to dance to Eight to the Bar live!

TEEN SWING DANCE
at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom

Friday, May 4th, 2012, Swing Time & City of Gulfport present a TEEN SWING DANCE at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom!  The dance is open to teens ages 13 and up, and no partner is needed.  It features a Dance Jam & Contest, with prizes to the winners.  Retro swing attire is encouraged, but any appropriate dressy attire is welcome.  Doors open 7pm, followed by a Swing-Dance Lesson at 7:15pm, and dancing 8-11pm.  Admission is $7.  Door prize giveaways happen throughout the evening.  Snacks and soft drinks are available for purchase.

The Gulfport Casino Ballroom has hosted Teen Dances since at least the 1950's, and it's one of the world's top dance destinations, featuring a huge dance floor and a spectacular beachfront setting!  It's located in the St. Petersburg, Florida area at 5500 Shore Blvd. S., Gulfport, FL 33707.
